bipolar weather disorder

A heat wave, snow storm, and thunderstorm all within a week. What is that?! It's cool but very weird. Let me remind you that it is only February and there was a day where I almost wore flip flops to class! The "heat wave" last Friday was perfect. It was a Friday and I had only one class. Played some tennis and spend the rest of my night outside star gazing. Then the following Tuesday brought school delays from all the snow and ice. I guess global warming does exist. I must admit though, yesterday's storm was awesome! I had a pretty bad spot to watch it and started getting all wet from the wind blowing in the rain, but the thunder and sky was awesome! I think it indicated a great storm season ahead and I am more than excited!

This year or next year, I honestly want to road trip to a tornado alley state and go tornado hunting. I don't care who goes, but I definitely am. :)

Thanks for reading and i'll post soon.

2011 Hurricane Names

Today, I came across hurricane names for this year! Here they are:

Arlene
Bret
Cindy
Don
Emily
Franklin
Gert
Harvey
Irene
Jose
Katia
Lee
Maria
Nate
Ophelia
Philippe
Rina
Sean
Tammy
Vince
Whitney

The ones I found interesting are in bold. Don is one of my favorites because he is one of my best friends! Whereas the rest of them are just funny for other reasons. I'm looking forward to hurricane season, but I hope we don't get all the way to the bottom of the list for the south's sake. A few years ago, my name was on the list, but the hurricanes never got to the letter "M". It was very disappointing. Hurricane season in the Atlantic begins June 1st and ends November 30th. The Eastern Pacific hurricane season begins May 15th and also ends November 30th.  Hurricanes in 2011 are predicted to be worse then ever this year. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out!

Please allow me to introduce myself..

Hello! My name's Melnado, and I'm a freshman in college.  I'm currently majoring in meteorology and minoring in journalism, so I figured this would be a pretty cool idea.  Just to let you know, I am a little very obsessed with weather.  It's been that way since second grade.  I've been especially drawn to severe weather.  I love tornadoes, thunderstorms, hurricanes, monsoons, and pretty much any kind of destructive weather.  When there is a thunderstorm, you can find me on my porch watching it.  My dad's always outside with me, and sometimes my dogs do too. Often, I have to put my dogs inside because they hate the sound of thunder.  My one dog is deaf now so I think she'll stay outside with me this summer.  A lot of the time I find myself on Google Images searching for tornadoes and destruction severe weather has caused.  I want to see a tornado so bad, and trust me, I will someday.  Another dream of mine is to live through a category 4 or 5 hurricane.  I want to be there when the waves start getting rough, the sky darkens, the first half, the eye, and the last half.  I've heard about the eye of a hurricane when everything gets really clear and calm, and it really just amazes me and I'm fascinated. I'm one of those dorks that have severe weather alerts and daily weather forecasts sent to their phone.  I always get excited when I get a severe weather text.  Especially in high school when I would just tell everyone in my class that there was a severe thunderstorm coming.  I am no doubt a weather dork.
Before I bore you to tears, let me tell you what I plan to make this blog about.  To tell you the truth, I really don't know.  I'd like to focus on weather, but I also have a bit of an obsession with trains.  So I'll try to incorporate the both of them. Basically whatever I feel like blogging about, I will post.  I'll have some cooler pictures this summer when South Jersey gets hit hard with severe weather (I hope).  Last summer kind of sucked :( I hope everyone enjoys my blog and I keep all you weather fanatics interested :D

One of the coolest pictures I have ever taken.  It was taken during the summer of 2009.  From what I remember it passed over where I live :( Still an awesome picture though!
